In recent weeks, Greece has intensified its efforts to trace the origins of an unmarked, explosive-packed drone that reportedly drifted into its waters off Lefkada Island, a popular resort in the Ionian Sea. Authorities have launched an inquiry involving specialized military teams, which later confirmed the drone’s location after bomb disposal experts detonated it at sea. The Greek defense minister, Nikos Dendias, stated the drone was suspected to be from a foreign state but refused to identify its country, noting that Greece lacks the necessary capabilities to defend itself against such emerging technologies. He emphasized that Greece is investing in advanced combat systems to equip its navy with drones capable of carrying up to 100kg of explosives, aiming to counterbalance potential threats.
