The upcoming 'Hike the Hennepin' event on June 14th promises an engaging adventure for nature enthusiasts. This month's hike, organized by the Friends of the Hennepin Canal, will take participants from Lock 6 to Lock 11, a 4.6-mile journey known as the 'Snapping Turtle' hike. What makes this event particularly special is its connection to a beloved former hike leader, Ed Herrmann, whose favorite stretch of the canal is now immortalized in his memorial hike. This is a great opportunity for anyone to explore a unique part of the canal, regardless of membership status, and it's completely free! The hike begins at 1:30 p.m. at Lock 11, just north of Tiskilwa, and hikers will be shuttled to Lock 6 to start their journey. For those heading north, take Main Street south out of Princeton and follow the road until you cross the canal; Lock 11 will be on your left. If you're coming from the south, take County Road 1800 East north out of Tiskilwa for about a mile and look for the sign on your right. Dress appropriately for the weather and bring a friend along for the fun!
